These are the strategies that proved most effective for me three years ago when I unexpectedly lost my office job and had to adapt to a new home-based lifestyle.

The 5 Essential Daily Habits
1. Habit #1: Establishing a Morning Routine
By establishing a structured morning routine, you can set yourself up for success and ensure a more productive and fulfilling day ahead. You should definitely read this if you’re working from home and are feeling mediocre.
For me, establishing a morning routine is crucial for setting the tone of my day and paving the way for success. It’s like laying down the tracks before the train starts moving – it sets a clear path for productivity and positivity.
As I transitioned to working from home, I found myself missing the social interaction and camaraderie of my co-workers and the spontaneous interactions that used to happen in the office each morning. It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re working alone all day. (Being single and living in a 1 bedroom apartment isn’t always motivating).
Each morning start by giving yourself a minimum of 1 hour before officially having to log on and clock in. This quiet time lets you reflect on your goals and priorities for the day, helping you stay focused and make deliberate decisions. Waking up a bit earlier than your alarm gives you a structured start to your day, allowing for greater stability and confidence. This extra morning time makes it easier to manage challenges and handle unexpected tasks effectively. (this is the alarm clock I purchased to prevent me from using my phone first thing in the morning).

It’s all about doing six simple activities every morning: silence (like meditation), affirmations (positive statements), visualization (imagining your goals), exercise, reading, and writing (journaling). Without a morning routine, you’re more likely to waste time on activities that don’t contribute to your goals, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and rushed as deadlines approach.Starting your day without intentionality will continue to make you suffer by feeling unfocused and leading to deeper emotional problems. Don’t start your day scrambling to figure out what needs to get done…Instead, To begin your day, try either reading for 15 minutes or using a meditation app for some clarity. You can also energize yourself by having a detox drink or supplement to kickstart your metabolism and jumpstart your metabolism for the day.
2. Habit #2: Creating a Dedicated Workspace
Imagine stepping into your own little productivity sanctuary, right in the heart of your home. That’s what a dedicated workspace is all about! It’s your personal command center where you can conquer tasks like a boss without the distractions of home life pulling you away. The benefit of working from home is you get to design and style this dedicated space for yourself any way you want. So get creative and spice it up a little.
It’s your designated zone where work gets done efficiently and distractions are kept at bay. Whether it’s a corner of your living room, a spare bedroom, or even a converted closet, having a dedicated workspace sends a clear message to your brain: it’s time to focus.
For example, I transformed a corner of my bedroom into my home office, decked out with motivational quotes, with pink accessories, yoga ball (for back support during those long sessions) and all the organization tools I need to get my work done. This space is sacred – when I’m here, I’m in work mode, and distractions like Phone or household chores are out of sight and out of mind. Every day when I sit down here, it’s like I’m entering my own little productivity bubble, where I can focus, create, and make things happen.
It’s all about what works best for you and your home setup. Add in some art work, pop of color. picture frames, it’s about the vibe you create. Maybe you light your favorite scented candle or play some background music to set the mood. The key is to make your workspace a place where you feel inspired, happy, energized, and ready to buckle down and get things done.
Having a dedicated workspace isn’t just a luxury—it’s a commitment for anyone serious about working from home. It’s your sanctuary, your fortress of efficiency, and your pathway to success in the remote work world. So go ahead, make it your own, design it to your liking and personality and see how much more clarity and peace of mind you gain!
3. Habit #3: Setting Daily Goals and Priorities
Let’s talk about why it’s so important to set daily habits and goals when you’re working from home. Think about it: without the structure of a traditional office, it’s easy to lose track of time or get caught up in distractions. But when you establish daily habits and goals, it’s like giving yourself a roadmap for the day ahead. You know exactly what you need to focus on and how to make progress toward your objectives.
It’s all about staying on track and making the most of your time, even when you’re working from the comfort of home.
Let’s say your goal is to be on time and show up 10 minutes early for a scheduled meeting. You could start a habit of starting each workday by creating a prioritized to-do list every morning. By writing it down and listing each one in number of importance, increases the likelihood that you will focus on the most important items first.
You could also set a specific goal …. for example: complete three tasks by lunchtime.
This goal outlines what you need to accomplish before lunch, helping you focus on completing three tasks by midday. By consistently practicing this habit, you’ll gradually improve your time management skills and become more disciplined while working from home.
If you neglect time for these mini self-care moments, staring at a screen for hours on end will cause fatigue, a decrease in motivation and not being able to stay focused. Which can lead to poor work quality and irritable moods.You’re not just regulating your mood and sparking higher creativity, you’re also doing wonders for your physical health. Say goodbye to those afternoon slumps and other sedentary related issues like obesity, diabetes and heart problems.
So, make it a priority to take those breaks and get your body moving. Having this in your daily routine is a small change but will make the biggest difference. Trust me, your productivity, creativity, and overall well-being will thank you for it!
5. Habit #5: Establishing a Work-Life Balance
When I first started working from home, I found myself glued to my computer screen all day, every day. I thought I needed to work non-stop to prove I was being productive. I felt exhausted and burned out. My moods were up and down, my brain was foggy and my creativity took a hit.
I realized that I needed to create a better work-life balance to stay healthy and happy. So, I started setting boundaries for myself, like shutting down my computer at a certain time each evening and taking regular breaks throughout the day.
Trust me, without it, you’re setting yourself up for burnout and a serious case of the work-from-home blues.
Carving out time for both work and personal life lets you recharge and stay sharp.
Make this a daily habit—whether it’s spending time with your bestie or learning your next creative outlet, it’s going to add meaning and purpose to your day.
